Travis Perkins Case Study
How Travis Perkins Processes Over 150 Tonnes of Cardboard and Plastic Waste Every Month
Project Overview
Travis Perkins’ national distribution centre in Northampton operates around the clock, supplying stores across the UK. With more than 150 tonnes of cardboard and plastic packaging waste produced every month, finding a better way to manage the waste was becoming increasingly important.
The volume of material meant there was a real opportunity to reduce disposal costs and make better use of the rebate available from the recyclable material.
Mardon supplied and installed a RamPack CM70 Fully Automatic Baler with a conveyor system, designed to keep up with the demands of a busy 24-hour distribution centre.
The Challenge
Travis Perkins’ Northampton distribution centre operates 24 hours a day, handling large volumes of packaging waste every month. As the amount of material increased, the existing baling setup was struggling to keep up.
- Over 150 tonnes of cardboard and plastic packaging generated every month
- 24-hour operation, meaning the baling equipment needed to keep up
- Existing equipment no longer able to handle the volume of waste being produced
The team needed a higher capacity solution that could keep up with demand and make sure recyclable material was being baled efficiently.
The Solution
Mardon supplied and installed a RamPack CM70 Fully Automatic Baler with a conveyor system, giving Travis Perkins a higher capacity setup to handle the large volumes of cardboard and plastic produced at the site.
The fully automatic system takes care of the baling process with minimal operator input, making it well suited to a busy distribution centre operating around the clock.
Mardon managed the project from the initial consultation through to delivery and installation, finishing with full on site operator training to make sure the team were confident using the equipment from day one.
The Results
The new setup has made a noticeable difference to how Travis Perkins manages the large volumes of waste produced at the site:
- Reduced disposal costs through more efficient handling of the waste
- Improved bale quality, helping make better use of the recyclable material
- Minimal day today operator input thanks to the fully automatic system
- Reliable performance to keep up with a site operating 24 hours a day
Guy Sambrook from Travis Perkins commented: “The delivery, installation and ongoing service has been second to none… The whole process was seamless from start to finish… We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.”
A huge thank you to Guy and the Travis Perkins team for their time, kind words and for welcoming the Mardon team on site. And a special thank you to our marketing partners at SW Productions for capturing the installation.
