Compactor FAQs
What is a waste compactor, and how does it work?
A waste compactor is a machine designed to compress waste materials, reducing their volume and making disposal more efficient. It works by using hydraulic or mechanical force to compact waste into a smaller, denser form, helping businesses save space and reduce waste collection costs.
What types of waste compactors are available?
We have several types of waste compactors, including portable compactors, which are ideal for general waste management. Static compactors, which handle large volumes of waste and remain fixed in place. Then bin and bag presses, designed to improve the volume of waste that can be held in wheelie bins.
What are the benefits of using a waste compactor?
Waste compactors reduce the sheer volume of waste you have, leading to fewer collections and lower disposal costs. They also help improve hygiene by minimising overflowing bins, reduce the environmental impact by lowering carbon emissions from transport, and create a tidier workspace.
Can waste compactors handle all types of waste?
Our range of RamPack waste compactors are suitable for general, wet and dry waste, including cardboard and plastics.
Does the “Simpler Recycling” effect what can go into the compactors?
Yes, the new simpler recycling legislation that came into effect on 31st March 2025 means that waste can no longer be mixed within a compactor.
Dry recyclables like Cardboard, paper, plastics and glass, Food Waste including tea bags & food scraps, and General Waste must be separated.
There are some waste collection companies that will allow some mixed material within the waste – it is best to contact your waste company to check their individual collection policies.
How do I choose the right waste compactor for my business?
Selecting the right waste compactor depends on the volume and type of waste your business generates. Consider factors such as waste composition, available space, and frequency of waste collection. Here at Mardon, our team can help you find the most efficient and cost-effective solution.
